Sele
GAIDAR

A 17-year old senior at Treehouse International School in Herzliya, Sele Gaidar has had a winding journey for her young age, marked by challenges and determination, struggles and resilience. Fleeing the war in her native Ukraine, Sele left her home to settle down in Tel Aviv, Israel.

My Story

After moving to her new country, Sele identified a critical need for accessible information for Israel’s many newcomers like herself. With so many arrivals from all over the world with so many different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, adjusting to life in Israel can be difficult. What are my legal rights? Where can I meet people who share similar experiences and interests? How do I deal with moving from one conflict zone to a place which has unfortunately become another?

Hence, she devoted her time and effort to creating a platform to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities, especially children. Her project, the Fifth Estate, will not only raise youth voices but also give them the opportunity to speak their truth naturally and organize themselves for impact. The Fifth Estate will open doors for youth who are normally not heard but can’t stay silent anymore about the major issues impacting their communities and the world at large.

Unfortunately, many youths are vulnerable and require assistance separately from their parents, especially if they are refugees without consistent familial support. The Fifth Estate is for them as well - it’s about young people helping each other to adjust, thrive, and make a difference.

Drawing from her own experience, she understands how hard it can be when nobody is willing to listen or see your side of the story. Sele continuously strives to create positive change and help others raise their voices for a better, more inclusive world.
