GUrbanova

Aytaj Gurbanova is a secondary school student who is passionate about the future of law, and aims to pursue an interdisciplinary approach to education through political and social sciences to bring equality and justice to the world.

My Story

Growing up, her parents encouraged her to spend time with people with different backgrounds. It made her realize how despite many superficial differences, all people fundamentally were the same. This started her on her journey to pursue social equality and justice. Key issues she is most interested to resolve are those related to poverty, refugee rights, gender equality and corruption. In particular, on the topic of gender equality, she noticed that the mentality of men in her country is based on the fact that most females should not have access to education. This is because they erroneously believe that all women will need to do in the future is to get married and become good wives. Aytaj and her peers believe it will take another generation or two before this equality can materialize.

To gain real world experience, she is actively engaged in and out of school to pursue higher learning and apply them to her passions. In terms of academics, she chose a wide range of subjects including Business Studies, Economics, Psychology, Human Geography and Calculus. After school, she takes pride in contributing her time to various volunteering initiatives in addition to developing a website to advance legal support for members of her community. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, traveling and exploring her beautiful city.

Looking ahead, Aytaj would like to study law in the future as it gives her an opportunity to help people who might struggle. By studying law, she believes that she will have a better chance of making the world and people around her experience equality when it comes to certain topics. She is committed to her mission in ensuring everyone, especially youth, shall be free of offensive behavior and discrimination.
